April 18, 2011 Poland's Labor Ministry would like to increase minimum wage to 1,500 zlotys as of January 2012 from 1,386 zlotys in 2011, and plans to raise income thresholds entitling to social benefits by 2.1%, Labor Minister Jolanta Fedak told a press conference. "Consultations regarding 2012 budget assumptions are on," Fedak said. "The Labor Ministry sent a proposal to the Trilateral Commission assuming the increase of minimum wage to 1,500 zlotys." The ministry is also working on new income thresholds for social benefits. "We want these thresholds to increase by inflation rate, first estimates assume 2.1%, Fedak said, estimating the financial effect at some 200 million zlotys in 2011 and several hundred million in 2012. "The assumptions are almost ready, I hope the bill will come into force ahead of the elections." Source: The Warsaw Voice
