Have you ever left a meeting and wondered,
boy, was that a waste of time? How to conduct
effective meetings is one of the ways that
you make sure that, that doesn't happen. My
name is Gloria Campbell, and I'm with Advantage
Training Systems, located in St. Petersburg,
Florida. There's several tips, I want to give
you. First, have an agenda. It could be something
written, handwritten, or it could be as formal
as a typewritten agenda. Also, make it very
visual, people learn in different ways, so,
talking is one way, but also, something very
visual is another way. It helps to keep you
on track. What do want on the agenda? What
you want to know, is, what's the meeting about?
What do you want to accomplish? So, at the
end of the meeting, everybody can say, yea,
we started out wanting to talk about, how
to increase productivity in a particular department,
and here's where we got. The second thing
is, tell people how long they're going to
be there. If it's a two hour meeting, that's
great. But, you should always stick to whatever
time frame, you set out to at the beginning
of the meeting. The second thing is, ask,
is there anything else. Once you look at the
agenda, give people an opportunity to say,
well, you know, I thought we needed to talk
about this, or, I'd like to see if we have
time for this. It also gives them an opportunity
to buy into, what you're doing and how you're
doing it. The other important thing you always
want an effective meeting, is time for questions
and answers. Conducting effective meetings
is a way that you help the people attending
the meeting, feel good about what happens,
but you make things happen within your organization,
or your department. Effective meetings are
easy. It takes planning and organization.
