Hi there, I'm Tracy Goodwin, and I'm the red
sweater lady, and today we're going to be
talking about how to use creative drama in
teaching. And this is primarily for the instructor
of elementary education, grades pre-k and
kindergarten all the way up to fifth, or maybe
even sixth grade, although there are a lot
of activities, creative drama activities that
can be used in junior high and high school
as well. What we want to do is we want to
talk about what creative drama is, and how
we can use it to improve our teaching skills,
and our student's learning skills. Creative
drama is active learning. It's a wonderfully
brilliant concept where we take the material;
no longer are we putting it on the chalk board,
no longer are we putting it on a handout piece
of paper, but the students are actually up
on their feet learning something by becoming
it or by doing it, and this is a wonderful
way to teach. It engages the students physically,
mentally, verbally, and it is especially good
for your active learners. Active learners,
as well as the students that we teach today
tend to have about a sixty to ninety second
attention span; the length of an MTV video,
and so the old style of teaching doesn't work
for them anymore. So today I want to talk
a little bit about creative drama, and how
to use it in your classroom.
