The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum,
located next to the National Mall, has earned
international recognition for its remarkable
content and design of its exhibitions and
for its award-winning architecture. At its
heart is the three-floor Permanent Exhibition.
Through one of the world's largest collections
of artifacts, photographs, films and eyewitness
testimonies, the exhibition tells the complete
story, from the 1930s to 1945, one of history's
darkest eras. You can also learn about the
Holocaust in "Remember the Children: Daniel's
Story," an exhibition designed especially
for younger visitors and families. On the
second floor is the Hall of Remembrance, a
place of quiet reflection. It's eternal flame
is a memorial to the Holocaust's victims.
American schoolchildren were a part of the
museum's creation and downstairs is a wall
of over 3000 tiles they painted in honor of
one and a half million children who were Holocaust
victims. There are many other ways to learn
about Holocaust history in the museum, including
a rotating schedule of special exhibitions,
a learning center and opportunities to meet
and speak with Holocaust survivors. Entrance
to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum
is free of charge. The museum is open daily
from 10 AM to 5:30 PM. For additional information,
